Italian Restaurants
In Denver

Seven Michelin-recognized Italian restaurants, from regional dining rooms to a coal-fired pizza oven, and how to pick one.Updated 10 October 2026 · Zach Wennstedt

What is the best Italian restaurant in Denver?

There is no starred Italian restaurant in Denver. Tavernetta by Union Station holds a Bib Gourmand, and six more are recommended in the 2026 Michelin Guide: Barolo Grill, Restaurant Olivia, Dear Emilia, Florence Supper Club, Dio Mio and Marco's Coal Fired. Colorado's starred Italian restaurant, Frasca Food and Wine, is in Boulder.

Italian is Denver's deepest cuisine in the guide by number: seven recognized restaurants, from a coal-fired pizza oven to a new Emilia-Romagna dining room.

The spread is the point. You can eat counter-service pasta in RiNo, regional northern Italian near Union Station, Piedmont-inspired cooking in Cherry Creek or an Italian-American supper club on South Pearl, all from the same list.

How we picked these

The Bib Gourmand comes first, then the recommended restaurants grouped from the most formal dining rooms to the most casual. It is an editor's running order, not a review score, and it is not influenced by money.

Dining rooms

From Friuli to Emilia

  1. Bib Gourmand

    Tavernetta

    Union Station · 1889 16th St.

From the Frasca Hospitality Group, the team behind Boulder's starred Frasca, beside Union Station on 16th Street. A Bib Gourmand, and the most convenient serious Italian meal for anyone arriving by train.

  2. Recommended New 2026

    Dear Emilia

    RiNo · 3615 Delgany St.

The newest name: a love letter to Emilia-Romagna from the Restaurant Olivia team, opened in January 2026 in RiNo with a chef's counter and private dining room, and recommended within months.

  3. Recommended

    Restaurant Olivia

    Washington Park · 290 S. Downing St.

A pasta-focused room on South Downing Street in Washington Park, where house-made pasta makes up most of the menu. Heather Morrison won Michelin's 2025 Outstanding Service Award.

  4. Recommended

    Cherry Creek · 3030 E. Sixth Ave.

A long-standing Italian restaurant on East Sixth Avenue near Cherry Creek, known for its wine. Ryan Fletter was a 2026 James Beard semifinalist for beverage service.

Choosing by occasion

  • Before a train or a game: Tavernetta or Marco's Coal Fired.
  • A special dinner: Dear Emilia, Olivia or Barolo Grill.
  • A quick, good bowl of pasta: Dio Mio.
  • A night out with a group: Florence Supper Club.
  • The starred Italian: Frasca in Boulder, about forty minutes away; see Best Restaurant Colorado.

Reading the regions

What the names on the door tell you

Several of Denver's Italian restaurants announce a region rather than just a cuisine, and knowing the map helps you choose.

  • Emilia-Romagna is the northern region around Bologna, Modena and Parma, the home of Parmigiano Reggiano, prosciutto di Parma, balsamic vinegar from Modena and filled egg pastas such as tortellini. It is the region Dear Emilia is built around.
  • Piedmont, in the northwest, gives its name to Barolo, one of Italy's most famous red wines, made from the Nebbiolo grape. Barolo Grill takes its name from it, which is a fair hint that the wine list matters there.
  • Friuli-Venezia Giulia, in the far northeast, is the focus of Frasca Food and Wine in Boulder, whose team also runs Tavernetta. Its cooking sits at the crossroads of Italian, Austrian and Slavic traditions.
  • Italian-American cooking, the red-sauce tradition of East Coast supper clubs, is its own cuisine rather than a lesser version of anything. Florence Supper Club is the guide's example in Denver.

Pasta, made here

Fresh pasta is the common thread. Olivia and Dio Mio both put house-made pasta at the center of the menu, Dear Emilia's region is the heartland of filled egg pasta, and Tavernetta's kitchen comes from a group that has cooked Friulian food in Colorado for two decades. If pasta is what you want, any of those four is a strong choice; if pizza is, Marco's is the only pizzeria in Denver's guide.
